    Updates! / Monday, March 19, 2007

alrite! i can finally access my blog again. so I'm back with my second post.. after so long.. haha.. This post shall be dedicated to some really outdated events.

    01/03/2007

The official day when I moved out from Taoliyuan into Minhang campus. From a double room with common toilet, into a single room with a personal toilet. :) I like the current space I have, more privacy and I have nicer views when I looked out of the window. The only disadvantage of staying in Minhang is that it takes about an hour to get to the city area.
View of the school library from the pavilion. Its pretty near to my hostel and the view is lovely.

Needless to say, but definitely, love Singapore more!

Spring is here! Today’s weather was exceptionally good! The very first night I can live without my thick black jacket… hahaa.. I simple love this weather! First time taking the public bus from xuhui to minhang because we missed the last sch bus at 930. Basically, after you board the bus, you don’t have to pay first because once the bus leaves de stop, the conductor will ask you where you are heading to, and at the same time collect ur bus fares. They have a 交通卡 which is similar to our ez link, just that you have to hand it over to the conductor and she will tap the card for you.. according to where you heading. I guess this basically helps by providing a lot more jobs for the people.

Warm day, I guess the highest temperature today was like 20 degrees. very nice weather to be outdoors. And today I experienced an extremely crowded train for the very first time in shanghai or rather in my entire life. Took the train during the peak hour at abt 6pm. You don’t even have to move a step to get into the train because basically you will be pushed into the train. And the train ride was the very first time I perspired ever since I arrived in Shanghai. In fact, one of my lecturers pointed out that I should try to take the train during the peak hour to experience it. Well, I did.. haha.

The surprising thing is that the change of season occurred almost immediately. There was like no gradual increase in temperture. On 22/03, de weather is still like 10 degrees I think.
But on de 23rd, its already 20 degrees.

    25/03/2007
Went bowling for the first time and my very first attempt was a strike! Hahaa.. I guess this is really the beginner’s luck. Because the subsequent attempts were money down the drain. Hahahaa. But I had great fun! I'm glad I joined them for dinner and bowling.

An unplanned trip to Pudong! We followed the students here for a field trip to Shanghai Stock Exchange. But it was kind of disappointing because there was no trading and the time we spent in the building was shorter than the time taken to travel there. But the good thing is that we got a free trip to pudong!

    This is what we saw..

This is the group of local students I played cards with during the trip to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Played 2 games. one of which is 明皇暗保 and I can't remember what's the name of the other one. They are the ones who made the trip there enjoyable!.. It reminds me of excursion trips back in Cresecent and JC. Those were the days.. hahaa

There we are at 世纪大道! From left, Derrick, Me, Weixuan, Ruizhong and Annabelle.

I think we were all taking a photo of 金茂大厦。 中国第一高楼。

Views of 外滩 from pudong. I prefer the view of the bund from pudong than the view of pudong from the bund.

Dinner at 小南国。I think it was the best meal in Shanghai so far. Each of us spent less than S$10 which is considered cheap for the standard of the food and the environment.

I present to you... the food we had that night!

    31/03/2007

Pudong is such a lovely place that we went back there again the next day.. haha.. this time, with lots more pple including Weixuan's neighbours, and Zhu Yuan, the president of the student exchange association of SJTU.

    Fellow Singaporeans!

    Me!

    All the guys..

And to end of this post, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower!

My Very First Post / Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Today marks the 20th day in Shanghai, away from hot and humid Singapore and its only my very first post!
Well, I guess Mervyn is right. Blogs and I have no link. haha.. He does not believe that I will set up a blog.

Anyway, thanks to all who tagged and all who asked abt how I'm doing in Shanghai. I'm enjoying myself right here in Shanghai with great friends, neighbours and yes, great campus! Its really nice and big. I should say, its a very peaceful environment and very suitable for retirement. hahaa.. to quote annabelle.

    22/02/2007- Day 1
Arrived in Shanghai at abt 6am in the morning and walked around the airport before taking a cab to campus. Checked in at Taoliyuan in Xuhui campus and went to meet Ruizhong and Zhiyong (2 other Singapore exchange students). Oh yes, and my very first meal in Shanghai is Burger King and they give out ang baos! haha.. ok. not that there is any money inside but they give packets of ang baos.

We walked alot that day and went to Yuyuan Gardens followed by the Bund. It was a very nice experience catching glimpse of the environment in Shanghai.

This is a nice condo that I took while exploring the streets and the next photo shows what the residents face every day when they look out of their window.

and further down the road, this is wat you will see.

    23/02/2007- Day 2

Welcome to Shanghai, Annabelle! and she was my room mate for i think 5 days? around there. It's really a small world as she's a fellow crescentian and we have so many common friends. haha..That's Annabelle in red.

    26/02/2007 - Day 5

Derrick, Annabelle and I (those staying in Taoliyuan) had lunch in a Singaporean Cafe- Prima Taste at Metro in Xujiahui. Only 5 days in Shanghai and we begin to miss Singapore food. haha.. Had chicken rice for S$6, but its not as nice as the chicken rice back in Singapore thou..

and this is the poster inside Prima Taste, reminds me of home!

We also went to Minhang campus. Met up with Zhiyong and Ruizhong who's staying over at Minhang. The campus is really big and they have very grand entrances. Did I mention, Shanghai Jiao Tong Uni has 6 campuses altogether. Xuhui is located in the city while Minhang is in the outskirts. But most of the student population is in Minhang.

    27/02/2007- Day 6

We went to Fahuazhen campus for some admin stuff and I came across this drawing along the street. Very well drawn rite? Happy new year to all!

And this is the school logo and the words 饮水思源。Its located everywhere on campus.
Direct translation would be "think of its source while drinking water".

That should sum up my very first post. More photos will be up when i manage to log in at multiply.

One last thing, thanks to Alec for the sumptuous lunch over at his place during CNY. and thanks to curl, drey, eugene, ganesh, vid and benji for the surprise!
and curl, i brought the letter along with me to shanghai!

Ciaoz! I'm so looking forward to shopping at 七浦路 again tml! :)
